REGULATION

ART. 1- DATES OF THE EVENT
Raid Aventura Méditerranée organise the Montpellier -Valencia Raid’sixth edition which will be held from Montpellier, April 27th in the morning, to Valencia May 4th 2007.

ART. 2 - DEFINITION OF THE COMPETITION
The 6th Montpellier-Valencia Raid is a 500 or 250 kilometers semi-self sufficient free style race, on 8 stages. Participants must carry their own daily backpack ( food and compulsory equipment ).
The race organizing committee will take care of the personal belongings ( maximum 2 bags per participant ) which will be recovered each evening at the bivouac.
Breakfasts and lunches will be at the participants own expenses.
This race will last 8 days .
500 km race : 8 stages of about 42 to 75 km
250 km race : 8 stages of about 20 to 40 km


ART. 3 - GENERAL INDICATIONS
The 6th Montpellier-Valencia Raid will be held according to its regulations and appendixes. By signing the registration form, a competitor automatically becomes committed to these regulations.


ART. 4 - CONDITIONS OF ADMISSION
This international race is open to anyone, male or female, over 18 years old, fulfilling the requirements of the regulations and able to provide an ECG report and medical certificate attesting that he or she is fit for the competition. The medical certificate and ECG must be dated less than one month prior to the competition starting date.


ART. 5 - EVENT CALENDAR

Saturday, April 26th meet at 17h00 at the Montpellier “Géant Casino” parking lot.
Shift to the bivouac.
« Pasta party », meeting with the runners and the organising committee, medical control.
From Sunday, April 27th to Sunday May 4th : Participants walk or run on a dietary semi self-sufficient basis.
Sunday May 4th : finish at Valencia.
Presentation of the trophies, closing dinner,
Lodging in a three-star hotel.
Monday, May 5th : Back to France by bus from Valencia to MontpellierRaid Aventura Méditerranée reserves the right to modify the Regulations and content of the race due to events beyond its control ( weather, armed conflicts, etc.).
ART. 6 -TECHNICAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE CHECKS


Verifications will take place April 26th. Competitors must report to the Race officials and fulfill his/her technical and administrative obligations before the start of the race. During these verifications, the precise list of each competitor’s personal belongings ( food, compulsory equipment, etc...) will be checked.


ART.7 - IDENTIFICATION NUMBERS
The organising committee will supply each participant two race numbers ( front and back ). These identification numbers must be worn during the entire race. Each competitor is responsible for his/her race numbers and must keep them clean, visible, in good condition, and in the right place.


ART. 8 - STARTING ORDER
Each competitor will imperatively start at the right time scheduled by the Organizing Committee. Every stage start is a compulsory check ( start time is given the previous evening )


ART.9 - CHECKPOINTS
Check points are spread out over the length of each stage. They vary from 1 to 4 according to the stage distance and are compulsory for each participant. Race officials will note each competitor's time and supply him/her with mineral water.


ART.10 - DAILY FINISH
A race official will note each competitor's daily running time.


ART.11 - RANKING
Each competitor will be timed in hours, minutes, and seconds. Daily ranking results will be determined by subtracting any applicable penalty from the competitor’s running time. General ranking will be calculated by accumulating daily ranking results.


ART. 12 - FOOD AND WATER SUPPLY, BIVOUAC
Race officials will distribute mineral water to each participant daily as follows :
• every morning at the bivouac before the day’s run
• at each checkpoint
• at the finish line
• after the day’s run at the bivouac
Each competitor will manage his/her daily needs in water, according to the Organization’s distribution of water.
Do not leave without water ! If you ever get lost for a few hours, this water supply could save your life.
In addition to water, appropriate sweet snacks will be available at each checkpoints ( biscuits, chocolate, dried fruits ).
Bivouac : The daily locations of the bivouac are previously determined by the Organizing Committee. Competitors will be accommodated in well-equipped camps with appropriate bathroom and shower facilities.
In order to preserve the environment, please do not throw any rubbish along the race.


ART. 13 - MEDICAL ASSISTANCE
A specialised medical team, set up by the organising committee, is actively involved throughout the race and will intervene in a medical care vehicle. Competitors suffering from physical or mental weakness will be assisted and driven back to the bivouac. Medical members will have the right to disqualify competitors they feel unfit to continue and/or having received vital medical cares. The medical team will give treatments only in the evening.


ART. 14 -WITHDRAWAL
On no account, because of the risk of paying all expenses involved in locating them, should competitors withdraw from the race without having advised the organizing committee and then signed an official discharge supplied by Raid Aventura Méditerranée.
In case of withdrawal, it is important that the competitor inform as soon as possible the organising committee and give back his/hers identification numbers to a race official.
The following options are available to competitors who wish to withdraw from the race :
- In case of severe injury or illness repatriation is immediately organized.
- A competitor whose health is satisfactory may choose :
- To be taken to the nearest train station. In this case, he/she must sign an official discharge supplied by Raid Aventura Méditerranée ( Additional accommodation, food, etc., will be at the expense of the competitor ).
- To continue with the race ( though not participating ), and be driven by the organising committee every morning to the next bivouac.
On no account should he stay on a check point.
A competitor who drops out of the race and who remains in the bivouac is automatically taken in charge by the organising committee.


ART. 15 - GROUND ASSISTANCE
The 6th Montpellier - Valencia Raid is a foot race. Any type of external assistance (bicycle, car, etc.) is therefore strictly forbidden.


ART. 16 - INSURANCE

A policy covering medical repatriation has been subscribed by the organising committee. The insurance covers :
- medical repatriation : true costs ( France and Europe )
- body repatriation in the event of death : true costs ( France and Europe )
- funeral transportation expenses : maximum of 1 525€
- medical expenses : maximum of 4 575 €
Competitors are fully aware of the risks involved with this type of competition and are responsible for their own insurance coverage. The organization accepts no responsibility in case of collapse or accident.


ART. 17 - WEATHER AND GROUND CONDITIONS
Average local temperatures in April and May.
- Day : 27° C = 80,6 ° F
- Night : 14° C = 57,2 ° F
This 500 and 250 km race covers a wide range of terrain ( earth, asphalt, sand, rocks, etc …).


ART. 18 - COURSE MARKERS
Layouts, mileage, and contour lines are entirely made with GPS. Competitors must follow the race markers as set up by the organizers. Markers and several natural landmarks will help competitors to stay on the course. On some stages, unexpected compulsory checkpoints will be set up. Competitors deviating from them will be penalized.


ART. 19 - ROAD BOOK
Each daily course will remain secret until the daily road book is distributed to participants ( prior to each day’s run ). This road book will include different sections, technical details, etc… The trickiest points will be explained each morning before the start by the race organizer.


 

ART. 20 - COMPULSORY EQUIPMENT Food
Competitors must provide for their own breakfasts and lunches from April 27th, to May 4th 2007. Remember to select the type of food most appropriate to your personal needs and to local weather conditions, while taking into account transportation and weight.
Daily food intake must provide a minimum of 1500 calories.
Equipment :
- backpack or equivalent
- sleeping bag
- flashlight and batteries
- 8 safety pins
- compass
- knife
- antiseptic lotion
- antivenin pump
- whistle
- thin mattress
- signalling mirror

Participants must bring their own equipment with them.


ART. 21 - COMMITMENT FEES, REGISTRATION, ADMINISTRATIVE OBLIGATIONS
Total fees : 800 €. Possibility of a 3 times payment. It includes :
- transportation from Montpellier to Valencia
- bivouac lodging during the race
- evening meals at the bivouac
- Presentation of the trophies, and closing dinner
- lodging in a three-star hotel in Valencia
- mineral water supply for the whole race
- European repatriation insurance
- technical supervision
- medical assistance
- trophies
- tee-shirt
- video tape
Payments will be made by check from inside France, by wire transfer from outside of France to :

The committee will only accept applications with complete files. Please refer to the Registration form for details. Incomplete registrations will not be processed.
In order to register to the 5th Montpellier-Valencia Raid, each competitor must submit the following documents :
- application form
- a 800 € check or 3 checks spread at the latest on April 15th 2008
- registration form duly completed, dated and signed
- photocopy of competitor’s valid passport indicating date of issue
- 3 passport-size photos with competitor’s name at the back
- security check deposit for 152 € ( used only in case of penalties or withdrawal )
Medical file
- medical form included in the registration file ( to be completed and signed by a doctor, preferably specialized in sports).
- ECG report dated no more than 30 days prior to the beginning of the race.
These documents must be presented at the administrative and technical checks on April 26th 2008. Penalties will be applied to participants who do not comply.


ART. 22 - FORFEITURE, CANCELLATION
Reservation cancellations, withdrawals, and refund requests must be sent by registered mail.
Refunds will be applied as follow :
- 50 € will be retained for administration fees on all cancellations.
- 10% of the total fees withheld on cancellations before January 31st 2008.
- 25% of the total fees withheld on cancellations between February 1st and March 30th 2008.
- Cancellations after March 30th 2008will not be reimbursed.
Competitors are advised to take out a personal insurance covering cancellation.


ART. 23 - ERRORS AND PENALTIES
Technical and administrative checks.
Penalties will be applied to competitors whose compulsory equipment or administration file is incomplete ( one hour penalty for each missing document or piece of equipment ).
Medical file
A participant unable to provide the medical certificate and/or the ECG report on April 26th will not be able to compete.
Race numbers
In the event of loss/damage of an identification number, race officials must be informed as soon as possible in order to avoid a penalty.
A competitor failing to wear his identification numbers or having misplaced them may be disqualified.
Daily start and finish
Any competitor out of the start line when his/her number is called will receive a penalty equivalent to his/her delay.
Any competitor who does not cross the finish line will be automatically out and therefore disqualified.

Checkpoints and unexpected checkpoints
Competitors must register at checkpoints. A runner failing to do so will receive a one-hour penalty the first time, a two-hour penalty the second time and will be disqualified the third time.
The same goes for the unexpected checkpoints

Maximum authorized time
In order to allow competitors to progress at their own speed the committee set the average speed at 5km/h. The race organizer will indicate the maximum authorized time to complete each day’s run. Competitors exceeding this maximum authorized time will not be allowed to join the general race ranking. They will nevertheless be allowed to continue the race.

Withdrawal
In case of withdrawal inform as soon as possible the organizing committee.

Medical and ground assistance
Vital medical assistance (such as perfusion) will result in a one-hour penalty the first time, and in an elimination the second time. Competitors will also be eliminated for using transportation ( 2 or 4 wheels ) during the race.

Environment
Throwing away food packaging or any type of rubbish along the race is strictly forbidden and may result in penalties.

ART. 24 – PHOTOGRAPHIC COVERAGE
Raid Aventura Méditerranée reserves all exclusive rights for photographs of the 6th Montpellier-Valencia Race.
Competitors agree that Raid Aventura Méditerranée may have the exclusive use of their individual or collective names and photographs for anything related directly or indirectly to their participation in the 6th Montpellier-Valencia Race, including for commercial use. Any picture, video or film coverage done during the race cannot be used by the competitors, their supporters or trainers, for any use other than personal, unless it has been authorized previously by Raid Aventura Méditerranée. As a consequence any short, medium or full-length project of film must receive prior authorization from Raid Aventura Méditerranée.

ART. 25 - LIST OF PRIZES

Prizes are not negotiable or refundable.
